Sunday Joy - September 14

Acell appeared in the morning all dressed, including his tie. Most Sundays he can't button that top button on his shirt by himself, but he had managed it and put his tie on. That surprised me because he hadn't felt like doing much on Saturday.

We had a very nice sacrament meeting. Lucinda did a nice job on two of the three hymns she directed. The opening was I Can't Count Them All, and she never quite felt the downbeat. But the other two she did great.

The intermediate special musical number was by a chorus of young men: deacons, teachers, and priests, accompanied by another young man. Six boys singing in harmony! Jackson and Jameson, Tyce, Owen, Brian, and Asher sang. Asher did a little directing, kind of behind his back. He's the oldest and the only one who is a priest. The number was quite jazzy, and I may not have thought it was appropriate for Sacrament meeting, but a member of the bishopric had invited them to perform. I was so proud of them!

One of the speakers in sacrament meeting was the bishop's wife. I think she serves in the primary presidency. She's a beautiful woman, but I missed a lot of what she said. 😞 But the final speaker is the priest's quorum advisor, and I understood every word he spoke. It was a good talk.

We divided for priesthood and relief society. Our RS president made a few opening remarks and I missed 90% of what she said. She just speaks so softly! She didn't turn the mic away, as she usually does, but she didn't point it toward her mouth either. So sad.

Pam Van Ry gave the lesson. It was really a good lesson, and as she talked about some of her health trials, I had the very strong impression that most of us judge those members surround us by how they look and their family situation, and assume that they have the ideal life. But no one has an ideal life, and we all have struggles that no one can see.

That half hour between church and choir always goes so fast! I loaded three folding chairs into the back of the car, which was quite difficult. I grabbed my music bag and hurried over to our new rehearsal location.

We really couldn't fit into Phil's music studio anymore. So Susan Mikesell offered her living room. And it worked really well. She has an electronic piano and a music stand (so I don't have to carry my own each time), she has a big sofa and provided quite a few chairs. I had sent out an appeal to the choir asking if anybody could bring their own chairs, and a few brought lawn chairs, but quite a few other people brought folding chairs. We may have ended up with extra chairs. And the rehearsal was amazing! It's going to be wonderful being at Susan's. And it turns out that she was raised in Payson, and knows a few of our kids, and I know her parents quite well. What a small world!

I had created of poster, 8 1/2 x 11, to put outside the stairway leading downstairs to their apartment. I thought I might try Canva, which everyone is talking about, but I didn't have enough time to figure out how to use it. So I went to my desktop computer and created something in Photoshop. I had given it to Susan during Relief Society. I may consider making a bigger poster this week, but almost everybody already knows where we are meeting now. I do want to put something on the door that says walk in so that people won't feel awkward about whether or not to ring the doorbell. But I don't think I'm going to pursue Canva. I think it's a bit of a learning curve, and I'm mostly pretty confident with Photoshop.

We had no commitments for the rest of the day, so Acell napped and I took a very short doze in my recliner. We ate some leftover corn chowder and chicken drumsticks and watched Music and The Spoken Word and Follow Him.

This is the Canva version. It's pretty cute, and I did figure out after I got home how to make it print properly. But I don't think it's worth paying for.
